Australian Snakes
No doubt Australia seems to be the smallest continent, but still has the largest collection of individual species that are living on this planet. And this collection does include reptiles, amphibians, and other mammals and animals.
The snakes and the reptiles that are found over here are not found anywhere. This place not only prove to be a heaven for those snake hunters and collectors but also for those paleontologists who find most of the Jurassic remains over here.
The reason as to why this continent is so rich with these animals is because of its geographical location. There are many experts that believe that the earth moves on every year about 4 cms but there are no such significant movements that have taken place in Australia for the past few centuries. Therefore this is the reason that has been cited for a large collection of wild animals that seem to somehow survive and evolve since many years.
There are many species of snakes that live and survive on this small continent; they are the cotton mouth, the king snake and the copper head snake. These seem to be the most famous snakes that are living on this land. But the one which really scores above the rest of these snakes that are mentioned above is the “Inland Taipan”. This is the only species of snake that is seen in Australia and nowhere else.
The inland taipan is so venomous that it can kill almost 1000 rats by a single bite. Usually the venom of the snake is measured by feeding the rats some milk which is poisoned with the venom of the snake. So with that, one would know what is the strength of the snake and how many rats can it kill
However there are other snakes besides the inland taipan that are venomous too, such as the cotton mouth, the Egyptian cobra and the copper head. These are not so venous like that of the inland taipan but they could prove deadly to human if confronted. There are many cases of snake bites that take place every year in Australia. These snakes bites usually take place because of the carelessness and negligence of people who accidently step on them or even try to fool with them.
